Call To Kickstart This Site One More Time Again

Postby Donald Baker on Fri Jan 29, 2010 3:46 pm

Alright the auction side is a flop. But King Armory is not. This forum can still be a vehicle for KJ's website. Or we can start a new one on kingarmory.com. If you are lurking, please log in and give your 2cents. Otherwise I'm going to put this domain up for sale and go and rethink my life.

it would be nice to have a place to post our thoughts again, but for commercial use i.e. kingarmory I wouldn't suggest running a forum with the same vitriol that we were before.

Okay, sounds good to me. How do we re-make this forum then?

I think where the downfall was for the forum was the fact that we were trying to mix commercial business with political commentary and it wasn't working. It was probably too extreme for most folks (i.e. sheeple) to get a grip on. If I were going to use this forum for KJ's business then I'd probably shy away from all the political commentary, but if you are wanting to fire up a political website then I'd do so separately from the business side. One could take the other one down. I have a feeling that folks that just want to buy parts for their gun don't want to discuss their politics too often, you know what I mean, Vern?

It may be more reasonable to just set up a support forum/website for Kingarmory and just keep it a totally seperate entity from this place. I also wouldn't worry much about the auction side at this time. Let's keep it simple and go from there.

Perhaps cut down on the number of seperate boards, condense some stuff. Most people post in one or two boards 90% of the time anyway.

Okay your ideas sound pretty solid to me. I say we break this board down into three components:

1. Politics
2. Guns (research and development etc...)
3. General Discussion

If KJ wants me to setup a forum for him on KA.com then I can have him one up in running in a few minutes. As for GAA, I've already paid for the software so it's not eating anything. If people use it, fine, if they don't, that's fine too.

Hey all, I'm back after a long absence. Had been seriously swamped with the business and whatnot, wasn't making a lot of $$$, but was working 16+hr days nonstop. We had opened a retail shop in town and was hoping to get enough machinery in-house to do 95% of the customer work there but between the economy and a laundry list of problems with the building, we pulled the plug on it after 4 months and $15,000. Now I'm scaling back all operations until this economy bounces back a bit. Going to focus on getting some design work done for some MAJOR stuff we got in the works and get the operating system and website improved to make things run more efficiently when things get busy again. I'll bring y'all up to speed on the sordid details as time allows but I will be spending more time here in the upcoming weeks as things calm down around here. Not saying that things were stressful, but I kept a 4-drawer humidor on my desk at the shop just to keep me from killing people ;) Got some plans for this site as well, I'll hash out the details and try to put together a proposal. I want to incorporate a discussion board into the website so that people can discuss our products, gunsmithing in general, and get 'real-time' updates on work orders so I don't spend half my day answering phone calls from people wondering when their barrel/etc is going to be done. When production bounces back I'd like to use GAA as an outlet for oddball parts that we only do limited runs of or demo parts that we have too many of. I'll pound out the details in the upcoming weeks.

I also want to network this site in with various FaceBook pages, I think that will be an effective tool for getting gun-related traffic coming to and from this site. There are several gun-related and pro-2A pages on FB and more being created daily.
